Montgomery, Ala. – Alabama State volleyball will put a slight pause on conference play when it takes on Florida A&M on Tuesday in the Al Lawson Center at 6 p.m.

Tuesday's contest marks the second matchup between the teams this season as the Lady Hornets (11-18) topped the Lady Rattlers (7-17) 3-1 (25-17, 25-21, 18-25, 25-20) on opening night of the 2019 ledger in the SWAC/MEAC Challenge in Lockhart Gymnasium.

Alabama State is coming off a 4-1 weekend at the SWAC East Roundup held at the Jackson Convention Center. The Lady Hornets beat Prairie View A&M and UAPB, 3-1 while defeating Texas Southern and Grambling State in straight sets. The lone loss came in a hard-fought five set contest against Southern where the Lady Hornets nearly pulled off the reverse sweep.

In its last match of the weekend, Alabama State brushed off a slow start to sweep the regular season series against Grambling State with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-15) win on Sunday afternoon. Four Lady Hornets tallied at least seven kills with seniorÂ
Krysta Medearis leading the way with a team-high eight kills on an errorless .533 hitting percentage. Medearis added five blocks including three solos and seven digs.

McKenzie Boland posted her third double double of the season with a match-high 30 assists and a team-high 10 digs. Additionally, the team recorded six service aces in the match with juniorÂ
Nastazia Heholt and Boland leading the way with two apiece.

On the season, senior
Bayle' Bennett leads the way with 314 total kills averaging 2.91 per set alongside the second-most digs (283, 2.62/set) and service aces (29) on the team. Medearis follows behind with 256 kills on a .264 hitting percentage with the third-most blocks on the team at 47 including 12 solos.

E'laisah Young poses as an all-around threat as she has 215 kills with a blistering .352 hitting percentage, 19 service aces, 75 digs and a team-high 65 blocks including 20 solos.

Defensively, freshmanÂ
Emersen Belles leads the team with 366 digs (3.62/set) while also leading the team in service aces with 35. Boland paces the offense with 533 assists averaging 5.17/set.
