Montgomery, Ala. – Alabama State took a 13-12 lead in the first set and never trailed nor tied for the remainder of the match in the 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-13) win over Mississippi Valley State in Southwestern Athletic Conference volleyball action inside of Lockhart Gymnasium on Monday night.

The Lady Hornets (6-16, 3-4 SWAC) dominated the entire match as they hit .382 en route to its third consecutive conference win while limiting the Devilettes (3-20, 0-7 SWAC) to a .000 hitting percentage, forcing 20 errors.

Junior
E'laisah Young led the way with a season- and game-high 14 kills with a season-high .600 hitting percentage alongside two blocks and six digs. Senior
Krysta Medearis followed behind with 10 kills (.381 hitting) and a game-high three blocks.

Freshman duo
Madison Beasley and
Emersen Belles paced the offense and defense, respectively with a game-high 25 assists and team-high 10 digs. Beasley added a season-best four service aces while junior
McKenzie Boland tied her career-high with four service aces as well.

Set One (Alabama State 25, MVSU 18)
The first set was a battle from first serve as there were nine ties and seven lead changes by the 12-12 mark. Trailing 12-10, Alabama State reeled off a seven-point run, which included two service aces from Beasley, to take a commanding 17-12 lead that it would not relinquish. Medearis (.400) and Young (.429) tallied five kills in the set. The Lady Hornets recorded seven service aces in the first set.

Set Two (Alabama State 25, MVSU 12)
Alabama State used all of its momentum from the first set in the second as the Lady Hornets did not give the Devilettes any hope holding them to a -.111 hitting percentage. Alabama State hit a blistering .550 with 11 kills and no errors. Defensively, the team recorded 14 digs and four blocks to limit any attack by MVSU.

Set Three (Alabama State 25, MVSU 13)
The Lady Hornets began the set on fire as they jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead that saw six Mississippi Valley State errors. Alabama State would not let the Devilettes come within less than nine points for the remainder of the set to secure the dominating win. The Lady Hornets hit .333 in the set with 12 kills and two service aces.
