Montgomery, Ala. – Alabama State volleyball begins its final week of the 2019 regular season schedule on Monday when the Lady Hornets host Jackson State at 7 p.m. inside of Lockhart Gymnasium.
 
Alabama State (13-10, 10-6 SWAC) is coming off a 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-22) loss to Troy in non-conference volleyball action on Wednesday night in Lockhart Gymnasium.
 
In the match, senior Krysta Medearis paced the offense with nine kills on a .211 hitting percentage with a team-high five blocks including two solos. Defensively, freshman Emersen Belles recorded a match-high nine digs with four assists.
 
Junior McKenzie Boland tallied 19 assists with two digs and a career-high three blocks including one solo. The Lady Hornets secured more blocks than Troy holding a 9-8 advantage.
 
On the season, senior Bayle' Bennett leads the way with 348 total kills averaging 2.92 per set alongside the second-most digs (309, 2.60/set) and service aces (31) on the team. Medearis follows behind with 295 kills on a .253 hitting percentage with the third-most blocks on the team at 57 including 14 solos.
 
Junior E'laisah Young poses as an all-around threat as she has 237 kills with a blistering .344 hitting percentage, 22 service aces, 79 digs and a team-high 72 blocks including 23 solos.
 
Defensively, Belles leads the team with 410 digs (3.66/set) while also leading the team in service aces with 37. Boland paces the offense with 652 assists averaging 5.67/set.
 
SWAC Weekly Honors
For the fifth time this season, Alabama State volleyball has earned more than one Southwestern Athletic Conference weekly award as senior Bayle' Bennett (SWAC Offensive Player of the Week) and juniors E'laisah Young (SWAC Newcomer of the Week) and McKenzie Boland (SWAC Setter of the Week) were all selected by the league office on Tuesday evening.
 
Bennett was a threat offensively all week as the senior hit .333 with the second-most kills on the team securing 29 averaging 3.62 per set. Bennett also showed up defensively tallying the second-most digs on the team with 22 (2.75/set) and the second-most blocks with five including one solo.
 
As the middle hitter, Young posted 18 kills (2.25/set) with a .333 hitting percentage during the Lady Hornets' 2-1 week. Additionally, Young added a team-high three service aces, four digs and five blocks including three solos. In the 3-0 win over Alcorn State, Young was on an offensive tear as the middle secured a match-high 11 kills on an errorless career-high .786 hitting percentage with a match-high two service aces and two blocks.
 
During the week Boland was all over the place as she recorded 100 out of Alabama State's 103 assists to set the offense to a .230 hitting percentage averaging 11.11 assists per set. Boland also recorded two service aces, 20 digs (third-most on the team) and a block.
 
Last Time Against Jackson State
Alabama State fought hard to force a fifth set against Jackson State but ultimately fell short, 3-2 (16-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-19, 14-16) on Oct. 14 in Jackson, Miss.
 
Senior Bayle' Bennett paced the offense with her 11th double double of the season in a team-high 13 kills and 19 digs alongside two solo blocks and a service ace. Junior E'laisah Young followed behind with 12 kills on a .474 hitting percentage. Young added a game- and career-high tying three service aces, five digs and a game-high tying three solo blocks. 

Senior Krysta Medearis and junior Taira Cottingham joined the two with double-digit kills with 11 apiece. Defensively freshman Emersen Belles was on a tear as she recorded a game- and career-high 34 digs alongside a career-high five assists and a game- and career-high tying three service aces.
