Ewuosho pours in career high in @BamaStateMBB loss at Houston

HOUSTON, Texas | Tobi Ewuosho recorded a career-high Tuesday night, but it wasn't enough as Alabama State dropped an 84-56 non-conference contest against Houston at the Fertitta Center.

Ewuosho poured in a career-high 23 points, the only play in double figures for Alabama State (0-1) on the night. The senior bested his career-high of 18 points he set against Grambling State last season and did so with 10 of his 23 from the free throw line – finishing the night 10-of-13 from the stripe. He also finished the finished the night 6-of-11 from the floor and grabbed six rebounds.

DJ Heath and Kevin Holston each dished out three assists, while Ewuosho added a pair of steals for the Hornets in the loss.

Alabama State shot 34.7 (17-of-49) percent from the floor and 33.3 (7-of-21) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 65.2 (15-of-23) percent from the free throw line and turned the ball over just 13 times in the loss and forced Houston into 13 of their own.

Meanwhile, Marcus Sasser led four Houston (1-0) players in double figures with 14 off the bench as he connected on four three-pointers for the Cougars. Quentin Grimes added 13 for the Cougars and grabbed five rebounds; while DeJon Jarreau added 11 points and four assists.

Fabian White, Jr. added 10 points and six rebounds for Houston, who ended the night with 45 total rebounds.

Houston shot 51.6 (33-of-64) percent from the floor and 40.9 (9-of-22) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting 64.3 (9-of-14) percent from the free throw line.

Alabama State will be off until November 20 when they hit the road to face Tennessee, with tip set for 7 pm (est) / 6 pm (cst). The game will be carried on the SEC Network + and can be heard on the Hornet Sports Network, with pregame beginning at 6:45 pm.
