Montgomery, Ala. – Alabama State volleyball hits the road for the last time in the 2019 season when it travels to Mississippi to face Alcorn State and Mississippi Valley State this weekend.

The Lady Hornets (11-19, 8-6 SWAC) will take on Alcorn State (5-20, 2-12 SWAC) on Sunday at 6 p.m. followed by Mississippi State (3-25, 0-12 SWAC) on Monday at 6 p.m.

Alabama State is coming off a disappointing loss to Florida A&M 3-0 (8-25, 23-25, 21-25) in Tallahassee on Tuesday night. SeniorÂ
Bayle' Bennett led the way with nine kills on a team-best .368 hitting percentage alongside nine digs and two blocks. JuniorÂ
McKenzie Boland posted a match-high 25 assists with 11 digs to mark her fourth double double of the season.

On the season, Bennett leads the way with 323 total kills averaging 2.94 per set alongside the second-most digs (292, 2.65/set) and service aces (29) on the team. Senior
Krysta Medearis follows behind with 264 kills on a .256 hitting percentage with the third-most blocks on the team at 47 including 12 solos.

E'laisah Young poses as an all-around threat as she has 219 kills with a blistering .347 hitting percentage, 20 service aces, 77 digs and a team-high 66 blocks including 21 solos.

Defensively, freshmanÂ
Emersen Belles leads the team with 376 digs (3.62/set) while also leading the team in service aces with 35. Boland paces the offense with 558 assists averaging 5.26/set.

SWAC Weekly Honors
Young was named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Week while Boland was tabbed SWAC Setter of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday evening.

This marks the fourth Newcomer of the Week award for Young, first offensive and this is the second Setter of the Week honor for Boland in as many weeks.

Young was on tear this past weekend at the SWAC East Roundup as the middle hitter recorded 55 kills (second-most on the team) averaging 2.89 kills per set with a blistering .410 hitting percentage. Additionally, the junior tallied four service aces, 22 digs and eight blocks, including a team-high five solos in Alabama State's 4-1 weekend.

Boland posted stellar performances in Alabama State's 4-1 weekend at the SWAC East Roundup as the junior set the offense to a .239 percentage with 192 assists averaging 10.11 per set. Boland also posted the second-most service aces on the team with seven, the most digs on the team with 47 (2.47/set) and had four blocks including two solos.
