Montgomery, Ala. – Alabama State struggled in the middle quarters dropping an 83-48 decision to Samford in non-conference women's basketball action inside of the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Hornets (3-3) could not overcome the Bulldogs (3-6) daunting defense in the second and third quarters as Samford outscored Alabama State 47-14 to create a big enough gap to hold on for its second straight victory.

Alabama State struggled offensively, shooting 32.1 percent (18-of-56) from the field as well as 17.6 percent (3-of-17) from behind the arc. Samford used its defensive momentum to push the offense as the Bulldogs shot 53.6 percent (30-of-56) including a blistering 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the three-point line.

Hannah White led the offense with 13 points alongside a career-high tying three steals, a career-high tying two assists and one rebound. After overcoming a slow offensive start, freshman
Aniyah Smith nearly posted a double double with eight points and a game-high tying eight rebounds.

The Lady Hornets stuck with the Bulldogs in the first frame as Alabama State went 5-of-12 (41.7 percent) from the field to only trail by five (16-11) at the end of the quarter. Despite having a decent quarter, Alabama State struggled to knock down shots in the second and third stanzas going 5-of-29 (17.2 percent) which gave Samford all the momentum it needed to secure the win.
