@BamaStateWBB comes up short at No. 16/16 DePaul

CHICAGO, Ill. | Jayla Crawford led a pair of players in double figures for Alabama State as they fell to No. 16/16 DePaul 105-76 at Wintrust Arena Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

Crawford led Alabama State (3-6) with 20 points on 8-of-20 shooting from the floor and hit three of her four free throws. She was joined in double figures by Taylor Aikerson with 14 points as she hit on 4-of-7 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.

Alabama State shot 43.9 (29-of-66) percent from the floor, while being held to just 16.7 (3-of-18) percent from beyond the arc. They were also at 53.6 (15-of-28) percent from the free throw line in the loss, while forcing 21 turnovers by the Blue Demons.

DePaul (9-1), the second-highest scoring team in the nation at nearly 89 points per game, had seven players in double figures on the day led by Marisa Warren and Deja Church with 16 points each. Chante Stonewell and Dee Bekelja finished with 12 each, while Jolene Daninger added 11. A pair of players, Kayla Caudle and Nadege Jean each finished with 10.

The Blue Demons finished the day shooting 46.3 (37-of-80) percent from the floor and 38.9 (14-of-36) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 68.0 (17-of-25) percent from the free throw line.

After DePaul was able to pull away in the first quarter, Alabama State responded over the next three quarters as they were outscored by just 11 points. The Lady Hornets shot a game-high 50 (9-of-18) percent from the floor in the third quarter in which both teams put 20 on the board.

Alabama State returns to action Tuesday night against North Alabama at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome, with tip set for 6 pm and the game will be carried by the Hornet Sports Network beginning at 5:45 pm. Tickets are still available for the contest and can be purchased at the door, or by calling the ASU Ticket Office.
