MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns to the court Sunday morning against Mercer on the road after their match with West Alabama was postponed Thursday.
Alabama State (1-0) and Mercer (1-6) are set to begin at 11 am in Macon (Ga.), and the Lady Hornets will then return home to face West Alabama Monday.
An Inside Look at the Hornets
- Alabama State opened the season with a 7-0 victory over Point, earning wins by default at number six singles and number three doubles. The Lady Hornets allowed just 18 total games won by Point in the win at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center.
- The Lady Hornets used a different lineup than expected when the defaults were awarded, moving each player up a spot in singles which rested Reka Szentes – who would have played at number one singles.
- Urska Velec, Maria Popova and Worthy Goldman each picked up their first wins at Alabama State in the opening match.
- Szentes and Gabriela Lackova were each given the day off in singles play, although they both played in doubles and picked up wins.
An Inside Look at Mercer
- Mercer has dropped three consecutive matches, including road matches against nationally-ranked Alabama and Auburn.
- The Bears picked up their lone win of the season over Alabama A&M, 6-1, back on January 20.
- Mercer has picked up a win at every position in singles play, including a pair of wins at number four singles by a pair of different players.
- Only one player has multiple wins in singles for Mercer, Celine Schepers, who has picked up one win each at numbers three and four. She is 1-1 at both positions.
- Mercer has won just twice in doubles play this season, posting a 2-12 record.
An Inside Look at West Alabama
- West Alabama will be playing their second consecutive exhibition match to open the season, following a 4-3 loss to Jacksonville State.
- The Tigers won the doubles point when the team of Georgina Salom and Andrea Tomassone won at number two doubles, and Lillana Araucz and Daryna Hukasian won at number three doubles.
- West Alabama also picked up a pair of singles wins when Sarah Manseri won at number two singles and Haina Franco won at number three singles in three sets.
