Justine Jean tossed a complete-game no-hitter to cap off a perfect weekend for Alabama State at the Chef Celeste Challenge at Zachary Youth Park.
The Lady Hornets (4-0) run-ruled both opponents on Sunday, Prairie View A&M (11-3) and Southern (8-0).
The no-hitter was Jean's first in her career, as the Levittown, N.Y native amassed six strikeouts and only walked one batter.

After falling behind 3-0 in the second inning, Alabama State erupted for 11 unanswered runs.
Charlene Castro was sparkling in relief, pitching the final 3.2 innings and picking up five strikeouts.
Hailey Walker put the Lady Hornets on the board in the second when she ripped a two-run double to deep center field. Junior
Vanessa Bradford drilled an inside the park home run in the third inning, stretching the Alabama State lead out to 6-3. The Atlanta, Ga. product drove in the final two runs of the game and finished a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI as Alabama State handed Prairie View A&M (3-1) its first loss of 2019.

Jean shut down the Jaguars (1-3) behind an efficient effort that saw the hosts reach base on only two occasions. Freshman
Alexis Massie led Alabama State with three hits and three RBI.

Teah Steel each recorded a triple and
Alexis Sydnor smashed a double as the Lady Hornets controlled the final game of the tournament from the start.
Noteworthy
Jean and Bradford combined for three complete games on the weekend, with Jean leading the way with two (Howard, Southern).

Bradford proved to be dynamic as a two-way threat, leaving the weekend with an .833 average, five RBI and one home run.

Amira James tallied three extra-base hits across her four games (two triples, one double). The Lady Hornets totaled 11 extra-base hits.

What's next
Alabama State will host the Black and Gold Tournament next weekend (February 15 – 16) at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex. The Lady Hornets will play a doubleheader Friday with games against Fort Wayne (2:30 pm) and North Alabama (7:30 pm).
