@BamaStateTennis returns home for first of three consecutive matches in Montgomery

Lady Hornets look to end five-match losing streak

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns home Wednesday afternoon after a three-day break, playing the first of three consecutive matches at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center as they play host to in-state foe Troy.

Alabama State (1-6) looks to end a five-match losing streak, with their lone win coming back on January 25 at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to start at 2 pm, and admission is free to all home tennis matches.

Inside the Alabama State Lady Hornets
  • Three players enter the mid-week match with Troy having won their last singles match, including Lea Krajcovicova who is undefeated at number two singles but winless at number three and four.
  • Maria Popova (2-1) and Reka Szentes (2-3) each have won their last match played this season, with Szentes picking up a win each at number one and two singles.
  • The Lady Hornets have 10 wins as a team in singles play, with six players picking up a win this season – highlighted by the three players with multiple wins.
  • Alabama State is currently 6-9 overall in doubles play on the year, including a pair of wins from the team of Szentes and Urska Velec. The duo has a 2-3 record with a win each at number one and number two doubles.
  • Meanwhile, the team of Krajcovicova and Gabriela Lackova are 2-2 on the season, including a win each at number two and three doubles.

Inside the Troy Trojans
  • Troy (1-1) split its first two  matches this spring, highlighted by a 7-0 victory over Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) member – and future Lady Hornet opponent – Alabama A&M. They also dropped a 5-2 decision to Chattanooga.
  • Maria Casas Blas and Matea Mihaljevic are each 2-0 in singles play on the season for the Trojans.
  • Meanwhile, the doubles team of Pei Ju Hsieh and Chunxi Gup are unbeaten in their two doubles matches thus far this season.

What's Next
  • The Lady Hornets stay home for two more matches, before closing out the month of February on the road. Alabama State faces Southern Miss (February 15) and Jacksonville State (February 16) on back-to-back days this month.
