BATON ROUGE, La. | Alabama State put a halt to their losing streak Friday morning with a sweep of Southern to open Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play, 4-0 at University Courts in the SWAC Roundup.
The Lady Hornets return to play Saturday morning against Jackson State at University Courts, looking to stay undefeated in conference play.
Inside the Match
Alabama State blanked Southern en route to their first conference victory of the season, getting an early win from
Reka Szentes at number one singles. She eased past Tanaka Chakanyuka 6-2, 6-1 for the first point of the match.
The Lady Hornets went up 2-0 overall in the match when
Lea Krajcovicova defeated Stephanie Mbaya 6-1, 6-4 at number three singles, before
Urska Velec picked up her first win of the season at number six singles in straight sets over Southern's Anya King. The freshman picked up a 6-4, 6-3 victory for the 3-0 overall lead.
The match was clinched when
Worthy Goldman picked up a three-set victory over Nandi Munyulwa 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 to seal the win.
