BATON ROUGE, La. | Alabama State opened conference play with a hard-fought 4-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory over Jackson State at the SWAC Roundup hosted by Southern University Saturday morning.
Ion Efrim picked up another win at number one singles for the Hornets, winning in straight sets over Andrey Alawi (6-4, 7-6); while the
Chris Andre picked up a 6-3, 6-0 victory at number two singles over Tomas Torees of Jackson State.
Alexis Collard picked up another win for Alabama State at number three singles, defeating Katu Fritz 6-2, 6-1; while
Tomas Fernandez fell in three sets to Lebelo Moshele 6-3, 1-6, 6-7. The Hornets only other loss came at number six singles where
Alejo Calvis fell to Richy Gamo 6-0, 2-6, 2-6.
Alabama State won at number five singles where
Juan Rodriguez won in three sets (6-2, 6-7, 6-1) over Jackson State's Juan Soria.
