MONTGOMERY, Ala. | No. 1 meets No. 3 as league-leading Southern plays host to Alabama State in a pivotal Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game Monday at 5:30 pm inside of the F.G. Clark Activity Center.
Aiming to stay put atop the conference standings, the Lady Hornets (10-14, 9-4 SWAC) are looking to remain in the win column after defeating Alcorn 70-58 on Saturday.
Shmya Ward and
Ayana Emmanuel each scored 25 points, while
Jayla Crawford finished with 12.
Southern (14-11, 11-3 SWAC) enters Monday's tilt on a three-game winning streak and is coming off a 68-60 victory over Alabama A&M on Saturday in which Alyric Scott recorded 16 points and Taneara Moore hauled in 11 rebounds.
A LOOK AT THE LADY HORNETS
- Ayana Emmanuel leads the scoring effort for Alabama State, averaging 13.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game, while Jayla Crawford is at 12.3 points.
- Ward has been instrumental on the glass, hauling in 7.5 rebounds per game to go along with 10.7 points.
- Alabama State is third in the conference in field goal percentage at 40.0 percent and second in free throw percentage at 65.8.
