Alabama State and Southern split season series

BATON ROUGE, La. | Two players scored in double figures for Alabama State, but it wasn't enough to overcome a big second half by Southern as the Lady Hornets fell 62-52 in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest at the F.G. Clark Activity Center Monday night.
 
Jayla Crawford led all scorers with 16 points, including shooting 6-of-11 from the floor and knocking down 3-of-5 free throws in the loss. Meanwhile, Ayana Emmanuel added 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field, while Tyesha Rudolph chipped in nine points and four rebounds.
 
Alabama State (10-15, 9-5 SWAC) shot 45.0 (18-of-40) percent from the floor in the loss, while shooting 25.0 (2-of-8) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished at 66.7 (14-of-21) percent from the free throw line.
 
Rishonti Cowart led Southern (15-11, 12-3 SWAC) with 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting, while Danayea Charles finished with eight points and four assists. Alyric Scott and Amani McWain each added seven for the Jaguars who finished the night shooting 36.4 (20-of-55) percent from the floor, 18.2 (2-of-22) percent from beyond the arc and 72.0 (18-of-25) from the charity stripe.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Alabama State won the rebounding battle 32-28.
 
Southern finished with 16 points in the paint, 24 bench points and 10 second chance points.
 
The Lady Hornets finished with 24 points in the paint, three second chance points and 20 bench points.
 
The Jaguars forced 22 Lady Hornet turnovers that they converted into 23 points, while Alabama State scored eight points off of Southern's miscues.
