MONTGOMERY, Ala. | UAB used three big innings to pull away from Alabama State 10-6 in non-conference action at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex Wednesday night.
Alabama State (5-3) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first before UAB (7-2) answered to take the lead with a three-run third inning. The Hornets answered back with two of their own to take a 4-3 lead after three, but UAB used two more three run innings to pull away for the win.
Gage Dollar (1-1) suffered the loss, working 4.1 innings and allowed five runs off of five hits; while striking out five. The Hornets used five pitchers on the night, with
Terrell McCall closing the game with one inning of work and a pair of strikeouts.
Alabama State pounded out 10 hits on the night, with three players picking up multiple hits.
Santiago Garcia led the Hornets at the plate going 3-for-5 with a pair of runs batted in.
Eriq White and
Cameron Hearn each added a pair of hits in the loss.

How it Happened
Alabama State got on the board first in the bottom half of the first inning when Cameron delivered a double to right center field to score
Yamil Pagan from second for a 1-0 lead. The Hornets added to that lead when
Santiago Garcia singled through the left side for the 2-0 lead.
UAB took the lead in the top half of the third inning with three runs of their own. They started the scoring when Colton Schultz doubled to right center to trim the deficit to 3-1 when Tyler Tolbert crossed the plate. They tied the contest on a Carter Pharis double down the left field line to score Schultz, before they took the lead on an Austin Triplett single to put the Blazers on top 3-2.
Alabama State answered with two of their own in the bottom half of the third inning when Garcia singled through the left side to score
Eriq White to tie the game at 3-all. They took the lead on a bases loaded walk to
Oscar Prioleau to give Alabama State a 4-3 lead.
UAB scored three runs in the top of the fifth on a double by Zack Davis and a single by J Paul Fullerton for a 6-4 lead. They added another in the sixth on a single from Schultz, before getting three more in the eighth highlighted by a two-run home run by Davis to push the lead to 10-4.
The Hornets got back on the board in the bottom of the ninth after a lead-off walk to Pagan and a single by
Eriq White put runners at first and second with no one out. After a hard line drive by Hearn was caught on the infield,
Noel Cheneau delivered a two-run double to trim the lead to 10-6.
