Mercer tops @BamaStateTennis in non-conference action

Alabama State returns to action Monday, hosting West Alabama

MACON, Ga. | Alabama State fell to Mercer in non-conference action Sunday afternoon by identical 4-1 scores at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. Alabama State (1-1) was in action for the first time since their season opener which was over a week ago and won their point in doubles play. 

Inside the women's results
Alabama State picked up its lone point in doubles play as they won at number one and two doubles, taking the early lead over Mercer.

The number one doubles team of Lea Krajcovicova and Worthy Goldman picked up a 7-6 win over Mercer's Katie Sidor and Celine Schepers; while the number two team of Reka Szentes and Urska Velec picked up a 6-3 victory.

In singles play, Alabama State dropped four matches and two were unfinished – number five (Marija Blazevic) and number six (Goldman) – due to the team result.

All four matches were dropped in straight sets to Mercer, with Maria Popova dropping a tiebreaker in the second set en route to a 6-2, 7-6 loss to Schepers.

Szentes dropped a break in the second set at number one to fall 6-0, 6-4; while Krajcovicova did the same at number four 6-2, 6-4.

What's Next
Alabama State returns to action against West Alabama Monday afternoon at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center on the Alabama State campus. The match is scheduled to start at 2 pm, and admission is free to all home matches.

The matches are a make-up of a match that has been postponed twice due to weather.
