MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State hits the road for the second time this season, this time facing Mississippi State in a pair of matches Saturday at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
Alabama State (1-2) looks to end a two-match losing streak entering the match against Mississippi State (4-2), who has been off since last Saturday.
Inside the Alabama State Lady Hornets
- The Lady Hornets enter the match after having lost back-to-back matches for the first time this season, including a home match to West Alabama Monday.
- The matches Saturday will be the only matches against an opponent from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) this season for the Lady Hornets.
- The Lady Hornets are 7-9 as a team in singles play this season, with seven different players picking up a singles victory through the first three matches.
- Alabama State is 2-1 at number two singles with Lea Krajcovicova and Reka Szentes each picking up victories in that position, while Urska Velec has picked up the lone win for Alabama State at number one singles.
- The doubles team of Krajcovicova and Gabriela Lackova remain undefeated (2-0) on the season with wins at number two and three doubles. Meanwhile, the team of Szentes and Velec are 2-1 on the season with a win coming at number one and another number two doubles on the year.
Inside the Mississippi State Bulldogs
- Mississippi State enters the contests on Saturday after having been off a week, with their last match coming against Alcorn State last Saturday.
- The Bulldogs swept Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) member Alcorn State on February 2, winning the first match 7-0 and the second 4-0.
- Mississippi State has already played two common opponents of the Lady Hornets – Alcorn State and Samford – winning all three. They still have to play North Alabama (February 22).
- The Bulldogs have won 13 out of 18 doubles matches this season that include sweeps of Chattanooga, Samford and Alcorn State (twice).
- Anastasia Rentouli leads Mississippi State in singles play with a perfect 4-0 mark – with all of her matches coming at number three singles – while Emma Antonaki has posted a 4-1 mark (numbers one and two) and Janina Braun a 4-2 mark (split between four through six singles).
