FLORENCE, Ala. | Alexis Sydnor used a two-out seventh inning double to break up a no-hitter as Alabama State fell 6-0 to North Alabama in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.
North Alabama (14-7) scored in each of the first three innings to pull away from Alabama State, including getting a single run in the bottom half of the first inning. The Lions used a sacrifice fly by Chloe Kirkland for the game's first run, which proved to be the winning run in the contest.
North Alabama added three more runs in the second on a pair of singles, one from Meleah Hargett to push the lead to 2-0 before a two-run single from Lexie Harper put the game out of reach at 4-0. The Lions added two more runs in the third on a two-run home run by Harley Stokes.
Vanessa Bradford (4-5) suffered the loss as she went 3.1 innings and allowed six runs off of six hits with a strikeout.
Charlene Castro came on in relief to pitch the final 2.2 innings of scoreless relief with a pair of strikeouts. Meanwhile, Laken Distefano (3-1) picked up the win in relief, working 5.0 innings and allowing just one hit with four strikeouts.
Alabama State continues their four game road trip with a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) series beginning Friday in Arkansas against UAPB.
