MONTGOMERY, Ala. | North Alabama used a five-run seventh inning to pull away from Alabama State for an 8-1 victory at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex in non-conference action Tuesday night.
North Alabama (4-19) jumped ahead early with a two-run third inning before Alabama State was able to put a run on the board in the sixth inning. The Hornets got a leadoff walk by
Angel Jimenez, before he moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Cristopher DeGuzman. He would go to third on a wild pitch, before scoring on an
Eriq White single up the middle to trim the deficit to 2-1; before North Alabama was able to respond with their five-run inning. The Lions added another in the ninth for the final margin.
Gage Dollar (1-3) suffered the loss, working 2.1 innings and allowing two runs (both earned) on just one hit. He recorded a pair of strikeouts, but walked five batters in the start.
Terrell McCall came on to throw 4.2 innings and give up five runs (all earned) on nine hits, with three strikeouts; while
Trevor Jurjevich finished the game with 2.0 innings pitched and allowed one run (earned) off of one hit with a pair of strikeouts.
Chris Lewis led the attack at the plate for the Hornets as he finished 2-for-4, while four others picked up a hit each. Colin Chamblin (1-3) picked up the win for North Alabama, working 5.0 innings and allowed just one hit with four strikeouts.
Alabama State returns to action Wednesday night at Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium against Jacksonville State, with first pitch set for 6 pm. The game can be heard on the Hornet Sports Network beginning with pregame at 5:45 pm, and the game can be seen on ESPN+.
