@BamaStateTennis drops non-conference contest to Middle Tennessee

Alabama State will face Florida A&M April 6 at home

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. | Alabama State stepped out of conference play for the first time in three weeks, dropping a 4-0 decision to Middle Tennessee Saturday afternoon on the road.

Alabama State (8-9) had their five-match winning streak snapped in the road loss, suffering their first loss since March 7 (UAB) after Middle Tennessee was able to jump ahead after winning the doubles point. The Blue Raiders got wins at number two and three doubles, with the number one doubles match remaining unfinished after the point was decided.

Leading 1-0, Middle Tennessee picked up win from Gonzalo Morell at number one singles over Ion Efrim 6-3, 6-0; before Francisco Rocha defeated Alabama State's Alejo Calvis at number six 6-0, 6-4. The match was decided, with three matches in progress, when Juan Rodriguez dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision at number four singles.

Alexis Collard, at number two, was unable to finish his match that was in the third set for Alabama State; while Tomas Fernandez and Carl-Louis Luckmann were each in the second set.
