MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State dropped their final regular season home game against Prairie View A&M 96-69 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Monday night.
Prior to the contest, Alabama State (11-16, 9-7 SWAC) honored their seniors in the Class of 2019 –
Gene Davis,
Ed Jones and
Fausto Pichardo – playing their final home regular season contest. The Hornets finished the night shooting 38.8 (19-of-49) percent from the floor and 28.0 (7-of-25) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 72.7 (24-of-33) percent from the free throw line.
Leon Daniels led four Alabama State players in double figures with 20 points on 50 (5-of-10) percent shooting from the floor, including four three-pointers.
Tobi Ewuosho added 14 points off the bench on 5-of-8 shooting, while
Reginald Gee added 12 points and a career-high five assists. Meanwhile,
Fausto Pichardo finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Prairie View (17-12, 15-1 SWAC) led from the tip and finished the night shooting 60.0 (33-of-55) percent from the floor, while hitting on 39.1 (9-of-23) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 72.4 (21-of-29) percent from the free throw line.
The Panthers were led by Darius Williams with 20 points, while Gary Blackston added 19 and Dennis Jones add 18.
Alabama State hits the road this week for their final two games of the regular season with major seeding implications for the conference tournament. The Hornets find themselves third, percentage points ahead of UAPB in fourth; while they are a game up on Grambling State and Jackson State. Meanwhile, Prairie View A&M clinched the regular season title and the top seed for the upcoming conference tournament.
The Hornets close out the regular season on the road at Grambling State (8-8 in SWAC play) Thursday night, before facing Jackson State (8-8 in conference play) Saturday afternoon.
