MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Montgomery Biscuits, along with Alabama State University and MAX Credit Union announced the Hornets' game against Troy will be played at Montgomery's Riverwalk Stadium as part of the second annual MAX Stingfest.
The contest, originally scheduled for the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex on campus, will be played at the home of the Double-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. First pitch is scheduled for 6 pm on April 30.
"This is an event that if you can put everything in a perfect world against a perfect opponent, this is it," Alabama State head coach
Jose' Vazquez said. "It shows the respect both teams have for each other that it was able to happen and happen so quickly. I can say there were a lot of conversations, but they were short conversations because it is what we (myself and Mark Smartt) both wanted. It is great for both institutions, both have a great following. We expect the stands will be full for the game.
Everyone has a desire to watch great baseball, and take advantage of what the Biscuits have to offer. To say we are excited is an understatement to be able to play against a good opponent. Hopefully we can put on a good show."
It will be the second event held at Riverwalk Stadium in as many years for Alabama State, as the Hornets fell to Mississippi State last season in the first MAX Stingfest.
"Every baseball player's dream is to play major league baseball," Vazquez said. "What better way for them to get to experience playing in a minor league stadium, in front of a big crowd and to see the amenities that the park has to offer here at Riverwalk."
Alabama State and Troy meet annually, usually playing at Riddle-Pace (Troy) and Wheeler-Watkins (Montgomery). However, the Hornets will give up their home game on campus to accommodate the expected crowd for the game, which was standing-room only last season.
Tickets will become available at Riverwalk Stadium at the box office, online at
biscuitsbaseball.com and by phone by calling (334) 323-2255.
