AUBURN, Ala.| Auburn scored in every inning Wednesday night, pulling away from Alabama State 8-0 in non-conference action at Jane B. Moore Field.
The 14th-ranked Tigers scored a pair of runs in each of their four at-bats, beginning in the first inning when Tannon Snow hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Taylon Snow from third for the 1-0 lead. They added another run in the inning on a double steal, allowing Casey McCrackin to score from third for the 2-0 lead. Auburn (34-10) added two more in the second on a two-run fielder's choice off the bat of McCrackin to push the lead to 4-0.
Alabama State (17-19) threatened in the top half of the third inning when they picked up their first two hits of the game. The Lady Hornets got a two-out walk from
Aimee Felices, before
Alexis Sydnor picked up the first hit of the game on a bunt to get runners to first and second.
Kaylee Davis followed with another infield single to load the bases, before a ground out ended the threat by Alabama State. Auburn added two more runs in each the third and fourth for the final margin.
Taylon Snow led four Auburn players with multiple hits as she finished 2-for-3 with a run scored; while McCrackin finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and runs batted in. Alyssa Rivera and Bree Fornis each finished 2-for-2, including a home run off the bat of Forniss.
Justine Jean (7-10) suffered the loss, working 3.0 innings and giving up six runs (all earned) on six hits before giving way to
Charlene Castro. The senior pitched the final inning and gave up a pair of runs on a pair of hits. Meanwhile, Lexie Handley (6-1) – one of three pitchers used by Auburn – picked up the win as she worked 3.0 innings and allowed two hits with a pair of strikeouts.
Alabama State returns to action Friday night at home, hosting Alcorn State at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 6 pm, and will be the final home series of the year for Alabama State. The Lady Hornets will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday afternoon.
