MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State defeated Savannah State, 6-3, in non-conference action at Lady Tiger Field Tuesday afternoon, winning for the third time in four games.
Amira James recorded her eighth home run, of the season and fourth in three games, for Alabama State (20-20) who got on the board first on an error by Savannah State (6-27). The Lady Tigers briefly tied the game in the bottom of the third on a run by Stacie Smith, before James homered to left field to give the Lady Hornets a 2-1 lead.
Smith scored again for Savannah State in the bottom of the fifth for the 3-2 lead, before James answered with a double to center to bring in
Kaylee Davis to the game up at 3-all.
Kristin Gunter put Alabama State ahead for good with a single to score James for the 4-3 lead, and
Alexis Massie doubled in two runs for the final margin.
Justine Jean (9-11) picked up the win, scattering 10 hits and giving up three runs; while Faith Dickerson suffered the loss for Savannah State, working all seven innings and giving up six runs on 10 hits.
Alabama State returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Macon (Ga.) to face Mercer in a non-conference matchup. The game is set for 5 pm (est) at Sikes Field.
