Macon, Ga. | Alabama State jumped ahead of Mercer early, before the Bears came back for a 3-2 non-conference win over the Lady Hornets at Sikes Field Wednesday afternoon.
Aimee Felices and
Charlene Castro each tallied a pair of hits in the contest for Alabama State (20-21), while
Vanessa Bradford and
Kaylee Davis picked up a hit apiece.
Vanessa Bradford (7-8) got the start in the circle, logging 5.0 innings and surrendering three runs on seven hits, while Skylar Sullivan allowed a single hit in 1.0 inning of work.
Mercer (22-24) was led by Danielle Castleberry with three hits, while Allie Jones finished with two. Lauren O'Dell (1-1) picked up the win after throwing the first 4.0 innings and Lynn Gardner recorded her fourth save after pitching the last 3.0 innings.
The Lady Hornets jumped ahead 2-0 on runs by Felices and
Hailey Walker in the third and fourth innings, respectively. Mercer got on the board in the fourth, before Castleberry singled to center to score Micayla Rood and Abby Walsh drove in the winning run with an infield single.
Alabama State will play their final non-conference game before the SWAC Tournament, playing on the road at Jacksonville State. The first pitch is set for 5 pm in Jacksonville on May 1.
