JACKSONVILLE, Ala. | Alabama State scored three runs in the fifth, but ultimately fell to Jacksonville State 7-3 on Wednesday night at University Field in the regular season finale.
Jacksonville State (34-13) struck early as Karsen Mosley scored first, followed by a home run from Anna Chisolm to drive in Taylor Beshears and Anna Hood to give the Gamecocks a 4-0 advantage. The Gamecocks scored again in the bottom of the fourth when they added three to extend the lead to 7-0.
Alabama State (20-22) got on the board in the top of the fifth when
Marina Clark hit her first home run of the season to right field that scored Skylar Sullivan, and trimmed the lead to 7-2.
Casey Durham scored the final run for the Lady Hornets on a throwing error off the bat of
Alexis Sydnor.
Faith Sims (21-4) picked up the win, allowing just a single hit and no runs; while
Justine Jean (9-12) suffered the loss for the Lady Hornets, working three innings and allowing six runs on four hits.
Skyler Sullivan pitched the final three innings and gave up three runs on three hits.
Alexis Massie was the lone Lady Hornet with multiple hits, as she finished 2-for-3.
Alabama State returns to action at the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament (SWAC) on May 8-11 at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
