@BamaStateSports to hold NFL Draft celebration Friday night

Tytus Howard was selected 23rd overall by the Houston Texans

MONTGOMERY, Ala.| The Alabama State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will hold a celebration of NFL first round pick Tytus Howard Friday night inside the Club Lounge at the ASU Stadium.

The event will begin at 5 pm, and run through 8 pm and is open to the public. It will be a chance for Alabama State alumni and fans to celebrate the highest draft pick in school history, while the second and third rounds of the draft are underway. Howard was picked 23rd overall by the Houston Texans, and was the first FCS student-athlete drafted Thursday night. He was also the first first-round selection from an HBCU since 2000.

Howard is the first player drafted from Alabama State since Jylan Ware in 2017 when he was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the seventh round with the 231st overall pick. Three other players have been drafted as high as the second round in school history including Curtis Green (46th, 1981), Eddie Robinson (50th, 1992) and Tarvaris Jackson (64th, 2006).
