MONTGOMERY, Ala.| Alabama State fell behind early to a hot-hitting Troy squad, falling 20-5 in the second annual MAX Stingfest at Montgomery's Riverwalk Stadium Tuesday night.
Alabama State (25-21) fell behind the Trojans by four after the first inning, and Troy (23-22) continued to score with three in the second and five more in the fourth to push the lead to 13-2. The would score in each of the final four innings for the final margin.
The Hornets were able to scratch across a run in each the third and fourth to get on the board against Troy. In the third, they used an RBI single from
Eriq White to score
Cristopher DeGuzman for the first run of the game for the Hornets and used an RBI single from
Yamil Pagan in the fourth.
Pagan recorded another RBI single in the eighth inning, before back-to-back bases loaded walks to
Noel Cheneau and
Santiago Garcia provided the final two runs of the night for Alabama State.
Jeremy Rivera (6-4) suffered the loss as he worked just 2.0 innings in the start, giving up seven runs (all earned) in seven hits. He was one of five pitchers on the night, including
Britt Buckelew logged 4.2 innings and allowed seven runs (four earned) on nine hits. Meanwhile,
Gage Dollar worked 0.2 innings of scoreless relief for Alabama State.
Pagan led Alabama State at the plate, finishing 2-for-6 with a run scored and a pair of runs batted in.
Alabama State returns to action Wednesday in Birmingham (Ala.) against UAB, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 pm.
