DAY FIVE WRAPUP

Football

@BamaStateFB opens second week of camp in full pads

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State hit the field for the first time in full pads Monday morning at ASU Stadium, the fifth day of fall camp.

The Hornets went through the same circuit of practice, but this time in pads which allowed for hitting between positions. The offense dominated play early on during the team drills, before the defense was able to come back at the latter part of practice.

The team will continue camp this week, which is closed to the public, running in full gear.

Alabama State opens the 2019 campaign on the road Thursday, August 29 against UAB inside Birmingham's historic Legion Field. The game kicks at 7 pm and can be seen on ESPN+ and heard on the Hornet Sports Network.

Quotable – head coach Donald Hill-Eley
"It has been a real good week; you can tell the guys had a good summer. We are way ahead of the curve when it comes to installation. You can tell they are in great football shape, so it gives us more time in executing the X's and O's then getting guys in shape." – on first week of practice

"You have to get it out. Guys have been waiting to make contact. The first day is always the scariest day because they haven't been working on coming to balance, and the offense hasn't been working on taking on a tackle. So, it was good to get through it." – on making contact on first day of full pads

"We wanted to put a contest right up front to get the guys going. The offense had a couple big plays, but the defense came back around and made some plays at the end." – intensity at practice
