@BamaStateFB set to host Tuskegee in home opener Saturday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | After eight days off since their season opener, Alabama State opens their home slate at ASU Stadium against Tuskegee Saturday night in the Labor Day Classic.

The game kicks off at 5 pm, and is the first of four consecutive at home for the Hornets.

Alabama State (0-1) looks to bounce back from a season-opening loss to UAB in which they held the Blazers well below their average from 2018. The Hornets were able to pick up 145 yards on the ground in the loss, and another 115 through the air including a pair of touchdown strikes from quarterback KHA'Darris Davis.

The Hornets and Tuskegee met last season with the Hornets claiming a 26-20 victory in overtime on a 25-yard by Ezra Gray on the first play from scrimmage for Alabama State. The two have met 101 times previous, with Tuskegee leading the series 62-36-3.

HOW TO WATCH / LISTEN
The game will be carried by the Hornet Sports Network and streamed live on BamaStateSports.com. It can also be heard on any of the affiliates of the Network, with the pregame beginning at 4:30 pm.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR / GAME NOTES
Alabama State had just their third 100-yard rusher since 2017 when Duran Bell went for 112 yards on 10 carries against UAB. It is the first 100-yard game for the transfer from South Florida.

The Hornets' defense held UAB to under 300 yards of total offense in the season opener, including just 114 through the air from Tyler Johnston III. They also allowed just 176 on the ground from the Blazers.

Alabama State tight end Larry Brown III entered the season-opener with four career catches and doubled that number before he walked off the turf at Legion Field with five catches for 25 yards. The Hornets had nine different receivers catch a pass in the contest.

Gray rushed for just 34 yards on six carries, however, he averaged 5.7 yards per carry on the night.

Anthony Craven, who was named SWAC Special Teams Player of the Week, averaged 49.1 yards per punt after connecting on six punts over 50 yards. He had a game long of 64 yards and pinned UAB inside their own 20 three different times.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
Tuskegee returns their top two quarterbacks in seniors Ahmad Deramus (1770 yards/18 TD) and Jamarcus Ezell. Deramus took over for an injured Ezell last season and led the Golden Tigers into conference play.

The Golden Tigers also return top running back Kenny Gant (612 yards) and receiver Peyton Ramzy (19/429/4 TD) to help bolster the offense.

Defensively, Tuskegee (0-0) returns Davoris Thomas (64 tackles/5.5 TFL) and Ricky Norris (55 tackles) to lead the team.
