JACKSON, Miss. |Â Jackson State shot nearly 60 percent from the floor as the Lady Tigers beat Alabama State, 94-62, in both teams' Southwestern Conference opener at Lee Williams AAC Saturday afternoon.
Â
The Lady Hornets (3-9, 0-1 SWAC) fell behind early in the first quarter and were never able to completely come back from the deficit – Jackson State (3-8, 1-0 SWAC) led 25-9 at the end of the first quarter.
Â
Tyesha Rudolph nearly shot Alabama State back into the game in the second quarter alone, scoring 10 of her career-high 12 points in the frame. Behind her hot hand and a quick start to the second half, ASU was able to cut it to a 12-point game at the eight-minute mark of the third.
Over half (56) of Jackson State's points were scored by just four players, led by 18 from Kaisah Lucky. Lucky was 7-for-8 from the floor, while also picking up 11 assists for a double-double.

Quotable – Alabama State Head Women's Basketball Coach Freda Freeman-Jackson
"We have a lot of things we need to work on. I think we played too timid and passive, and that won't win you many SWAC games. I'm hopeful that this will be a learning experience to get us where we need to be. I thought (Tyesha) Rudolph played pretty solid, really on both ends of the court."
