MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and head baseball coach
Jose' Vazquez released the 2020 schedule that features 26 home games.
Before the Hornets get started at home, they will open the 2020 slate on the road for the first five games that includes three games at MLB Classic in New Orleans (La.). This year, the Hornets will face a pair of teams they faced in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament a season ago, beginning with Prairie View A&M in the season opener on February 14. They will also face UAPB (February 15) and the team who they faced in the tournament championship game last season, Southern on February 16.
Once the Hornets return to the state of Alabama, they will play back-to-back non-conference road games against in-state foe UAB (February 18) and Alabama (February 19) – the first of three SEC schools on this year's schedule.
Alabama State opens the home slate with games against Oakland and Eastern Illinois beginning February 21. The Hornets will play Oakland to bookend the homestand (February 21 and 23), while facing Eastern Illinois (February 22). They return to conference play just two days later when they host Alcorn State (March 13-15), before facing Auburn – a College World Series participant in 2019 – at Plainsman Park March 17.
Following the game against the Tigers, Alabama State travels to in-state rival Alabama A&M March 20-21, before returning home for a six-game homestand beginning with Samford (March 24). They stay at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex to face Jacksonville State (March 25) and a three-game set against East Division rival Jackson State (March 27-29), before closing out the stand against Florida A&M (March 31).
Following the game against the Rattlers, Alabama State hits the road for six straight contests beginning with Florida A&M (April 1) and then face Jacksonville (April 3-5) in a three-game series in Florida. The Hornets close out the road trip against Tennessee in a two-game set against their third SEC opponent of the season (April 7-8).
The Hornets move into April and May with four remaining conference series with Mississippi Valley State (April 11-13) and Alabama A&M (April 24-26) at home, while they will face Alcorn State (April 17-19) and Jackson State (May 1-3) on the road.
