@BamaStateSB Splits Day Two at Plainsman Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. | Much like day one of the tournament, Alabama State beat UNCW in the first leg of a doubleheader before falling to Auburn in the weekend finale of the Plainsman Invitational at Jane B. Moore Field Saturday.

Game One – Alabama State 7, UNCW 5
Led by four RBIs by Schylur Edwards, the Lady Hornets finished a two-game sweep of UNCW with a 7-5 victory Saturday afternoon.

Edwards finished the game 2-for-4 with a career-high four runs driven in and added a run scored. She drove in her first on a single up the middle in the third inning, her second and third on a fifth inning double and her fourth on a ground out in the seventh inning.

Alabama State scored the majority of its runs in pairs, plating two in the second, third and fifth innings – Edwards' RBI ground out was the lone run in the seventh. Alexis Sydnor recorded just one official at-bat in the game, drawing three walks and coming around to score twice – Kaley Anthony crossed the plate three times for the Lady Hornets.

Skyler Sullivan (2-0) picked up the win after fanning three batters through 4.2 innings, despite allowing five runs on five hits. Alexa Veamoi dominated in a perfect, final 2.1 innings in the circle to pick up her first save of the year.

Game Two – Alabama State 0, Auburn 7
Auburn scored four in the first inning and rode out the final six to shutout Alabama State, 7-0, in the Lady Hornets' weekend finale.

The Tigers struck on a sac fly, a single, a double and a fielding error for their four runs. They later added one on a solo homer in the third and a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

The Auburn pitching duo of Handley and Yarbrough held the Alabama State bats quiet most of the game, the only hit coming on an infield single from freshman Kindall DeRamus in the third inning. DeRamus now has 11 hits through the first 10 games of her ASU career.
