@BamaStateSB Wins Home Opener; Splits Day One

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | In its return to the Barbara Williams Softball Complex Friday, Alabama State downed South Carolina State but fell in the night cap to Southeast Missouri State.

Game One - Alabama State 7, SC State 3

The Lady Hornets scored in all but one inning and held of a late charge from the Bulldogs to win their home opener, 7-3, Saturday.

The top three in the batting order - Kindall DeRamus, Alexis Sydnor and Kalee Anthony - combined for six of Alabama State's hits in the contest with two apiece. Marina Clark added two more of her own to contribute to the 9-hit total.

DeRamus finished the afternoon 2-for-4 with three runs scored, while Sydnor and Anthony both drove in a run apiece.

In the circle, Justine Jean (1-1) picked up her first win of the season after an effective outing. The senior allowed just one run off four hits in four innings before she turned the ball over to Vanessa Bradford, who earned the save after three solid.

Game Two - Alabama State 3, SEMO 12

Southeast Missouri was the beneficiary of five Alabama State errors that allowed seven unearned runs to score in a 12-3 night cap.

The RedHawks were held scoreless in the first, but scored multiple runs in each of the final five innings of the game to secure a run-rule victory.

Clark led the Lady Hornets on the offensive side, driving home a couple of runs with a hit and a walk in the contest. Sydnor drove in the other of the three runs in the bottom of the third.

Reigning SWAC Pitcher of the Week Alexa Veamoi (2-1) suffered her first loss of the season despite going the distance in the circle for Alabama State.
