@BamaStateMBB comes up short against Alcorn State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State fell behind by double digits early to Alcorn State before charging back in the second half to cut it down to a one possession game, before coming up short 80-77 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Monday night.

Alabama State (8-19, 7-7 SWAC) used an 11-0 run midway through the second half to pull within seven, before they continued the run over a 10-minute span. They outscored Alcorn State 28-16 over 10:09 to pull within three at 76-73 with 42 seconds left on a Kevin Holston layup. The Braves were able to put the game away at the free throw line despite a pair of layups from Leon Daniels and Jacoby Ross in the final 20 seconds.

Tobi Ewuosho led four Hornets in double figures, finishing the night with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Holston added 14 points off the bench with a pair of steals. Ross and Austin Rogers led the late second half charge by Alabama State, with Ross connecting for 13 points and Rogers chipping in 11 and six rebounds.

Alabama State finished the night shooting 41.7 (30-of-72) percent from the floor and just 28.6 (8-of-28) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot just 45.0 (9-of-20) percent from the free throw line, while forcing 20 Alcorn State turnovers.

Meanwhile, Dominic Brewton and Corey Tillery led Alcorn State with 17 points each, while Troymain Crosby added 14 and Deshaw Andrews added 13. The Braves finished the night shooting 52.8 (28-of-53) percent from the floor and 46.2 (12-of-26) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the night shooting 70.6 (12-of-16) percent from the free throw line.

Alabama State returns to action Saturday night on the road at Prairie View A&M in conference action. Tip is set for 5 pm, and the game will be carried on the Hornet Sports Network.
