@BamaStateMBB drops road game at Prairie View A&M Saturday night

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | Alabama State dropped their third consecutive game in a tough road game to Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) leader Prairie View A&M, 65-58 Saturday night.

Alabama State (8-20, 7-8 SWAC) and Prairie View A&M (17-11, 13-2 SWAC) battled throughout most of the game, with Prairie View A&M taking a three-point lead at the break (38-35). After a 7-0 run by the Panthers to open the half, Alabama State was able to pull back to within two on a Tobi Ewuosho jumper with 17:26 to play in the contest (42-40).

The Panthers were able to build it back to seven at 51-44 before a three-pointer from Leon Daniels pulled Alabama State back to within four at 51-47, before a pair of free throws from Jeremy Hamilton got the Hornets back to withing two at 51-49 with 9:09 to play in the game. That was as close as Alabama State would get the rest of the way as the Panthers were able to pull away in the final two minutes.

Austin Rogers led Alabama State with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor, including a pair of three-pointers, while DJ Heath added 10 points and three assists. Tyrese Robinson finished the night with a career-high 15 rebounds, while Jacoby Ross dished out a career-high seven assists while adding seven points.

Alabama State finished the night shooting 40.4 (21-of-52) percent from the floor and 42.1 (8-of-19) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting just 47.1 (8-of-17) percent from the free throw line.

Meanwhile, Devonte Patterson led Prairie View A&M with 21 points, while Antione Lister added 15 and Gerard Andrus 10 for the Panthers. Prairie View A&M finished the night shooting 36.7 (22-of-60) percent from the floor and just 23.1 (3-of-13) percent from beyond the arc.

Alabama State returns to action Monday night on the road against Texas Southern, with tip set for 8 pm and the game can be seen on ESPNU.
