HAMMOND, La. | Alabama State picked up its first win of the 2020 season Saturday, pulling away from Grambling State with a 10-3 victory but dropped its second contest, 6-0, to UT Martin on day two of the Lion Classic hosted by Southeastern Louisiana at North Oak Park.
Game One – Alabama State 10, Grambling State 3
Alabama State earned its first win of the 2020 campaign thanks to a couple of four-run innings against SWAC foe Grambling. The Lady Hornets rallied for four in the second and in the sixth after getting things started with two runs in the bottom of the first.

Skyler Sullivan (1-0) picked up her first win after 5.2 hitless, shutout innings in the circle. Sullivan allowed just one baserunner – on a walk – and fanned six of the 18 batters she faced.
A majority of Alabama State's runs came thanks to six errors by the Lady Tigers, but the offense was clicking nonetheless.

Reigning SWAC Newcomer of the Year and Preseason All-SWAC first teamer
Alexis Sydnor started to get things going for herself – the senior finished 2-for-3 with a run scored. Also with multiple hits for the Lady Hornets was
Kaley Anthony, who finished the day 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base.
Game Two – Alabama State 0, UT Martin 6
The Lady Hornets fell in game two of the day's doubleheader, once again being shutout by a solid UT Martin team, 6-0.
ASU was able to get just three hits off of the Skyhawks' Erin Gallagher, who earned the victory in the circle after four solid innings, and Seeley Layne.
Kindall DeRamus,

Both teams were held quiet offensively until the fourth inning, when UTM scored four runs on a couple singles, a wild pitch and a ground out. The Skyhawks added a run in both the fifth and the sixth innings to ice the game away.
Vanessa Bradford (0-2) wore the loss for the Lady Hornets, striking out one but allowing three earned runs in three innings of work.
