MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The regular season for Alabama State women's basketball will draw to an end this weekend as the Lady Hornets host Jackson State and Grambling State in Southwestern Athletic Conference action at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Thursday and Saturday.
Thursday night's game – set for a 5:30 p.m. tip – will serve as "Throwback Thursday" at the Acadome, while Saturday's contest – slated for 3 p.m. – will be Senior Day for
Victoria Harvey and
Zomoria Clark.
Turning an eye to postseason play next week, Alabama State has already claimed a spot in the SWAC quarterfinals on March 10 – it will start things on the road, but the opponent is still unknown. With a win in either game this weekend, the Lady Hornets will lock in the No. 7 seed and will travel to Texas Southern. If they lose both and UAPB wins, they will be the No. 8 seed and head to Jackson State.

Lady Hornet Leaders
Heading into the final weekend of the season, a trio of Lady Hornets will be looking to further solidify their place on the postseason SWAC All-Conference teams.
Ayana Emmanuel and
Jayla Crawford have led Alabama State in scoring for the vast majority of the season and enter the weekend at 11.0 and 10.9 points per game respectively – the two rank 12
th and 13
th in the conference in the category.
Freshman
Aniyah Smith has made a strong case for SWAC Freshman of the Year honors to this point of the season. The Birmingham native leads all league freshman in scoring, rebounding and free throw shooting – her 6.0 rebounds per game are the sixth most in the conference among all players.
Scouting Jackson State
The top team in the SWAC all season, Jackson State enters the weekend having already claimed the conference regular season title. The Lady Tigers come in at 17-9, 15-1 SWAC with their only loss coming to Prairie View A&M on Feb. 17. Alabama State opened conference play there on Jan. 4 and fell 94-62.
Jackson State is led statistically by one of the better duos in the league in Dayzsha Rogan and Marneisha Hamer. Rogan averages 13.5 points per game, which is good enough for fifth in the conference; while Hamer ranks in the top six in both points and rebounds per game this season.
Scouting Grambling State
The Lady Tigers of Grambling will see the end of their 2019-2020 women's basketball season Saturday, as they enter the weekend in ninth with no chance of moving up. Despite boasting one of the top scorers in the SWAC, Grambling comes in at 4-23, 3-13 SWAC.
That top scorer is Justice Coleman, who averages 15.0 point per game on the season which is good enough for fourth in the league. Alabama State picked up its first conference win of 2020 in Grambling back on Jan. 6 with a 77-64 victory, thanks to a 27-point outing by
Ayana Emmanuel.
