MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Despite a pair of seniors combining for 37 points in their home finale, Alabama State fell short to Grambling State 70-58 at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Saturday night.
Tobi Ewuosho led Alabama State with 20 points and nine rebounds, while
Leon Daniels chipped in 17 points and seven rebounds. The Hornets finished the night shooting 29.5 (18-of-61) percent from the floor and 29.0 (9-of-31) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting just 61.9 (13-of-21) percent from the free throw line. Alabama State recorded 38 total rebounds and forced 12 turnovers from Grambling State.
Alabama State had a seven-point lead early in the first half, before Grambling State took command of the game in the second half after a 10-0 run to go up 15 with 12:42 to play in the game.
Grambling State (17-14, 11-7 SWAC) was led by Ivy Smith, Jr. with 16 points and four assists, while Terreon Randolph added 13 points off the bench. Prince Moss chipped in with 11 and Cameron Christian 10 for the Tigers who finished the night shooting 42.0 (21-of-50) percent from the floor and 40.0 (6-of-15) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the night shooting just 64.7 (22-of-34) percent from the free throw line.
Alabama State (8-23, 7-11 SWAC) finished seventh overall in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) standings and will face Southern in the opening round of the tournament Tuesday night in Baton Rouge (La.).
