FLORENCE, Ala. | Alabama State dropped a hard-fought 4-3 non-conference match to North Alabama on the road Sunday afternoon.

Alabama State (3-6) claimed the doubles' point with identical 6-4 wins at number two and three doubles including a win by Luka Markovic and Alex-Antoine Marquis at number two doubles. The number three team of Alexis Collard and Alejo Calvis claimed a victory at number three doubles, while the number one match was tied at 5-all when the doubles play was halted once the point was decided.

Alabama State was able to get a pair of wins in singles play led by Marquis with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at number three singles, while Markovic picked up a 6-3, 6-3 victory at number five singles. The match was tied 3-all with number six singles on the court before Tim Heslin from North Alabama was able to defeat Andrej Trajkovski 6-2, 2-6, 7-5.

The Hornets return to action Wednesday, hosting Mississippi Valley State at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to start at 1 pm, and admission to all home matches is free.
