Edwards Propels @BamaStateSB to Day Two Sweep

NEW ORLEANS | Schylur Edwards homered and doubled twice to help lead Alabama State to a pair of wins on the final day of the HBCU Classic at Wesley-Barrow Stadium Sunday – downing Grambling 6-1 before shutting out Prairie View A&M, 4-0.

Edwards went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, a double and a walk in game one, while adding another double and a sac bunt in a 1-for-3 game two to pace the Alabama State (10-14) offense.

The Lady Hornets scored one in the top of the first, before Vanessa Bradford struck out the side to set the pace in game two. Bradford fanned six and allowed just three hits through six innings of work in the circle.

Two more scored in the third when Edwards doubled and Marina Clark followed with a two-run blast to left field. Edwards then hit a two-run shot of her own to extend Alabama State's lead to 6-1 in the top of the seventh inning – a score that would hold after a shutdown bottom half from Alexa Veamoi.

Alabama State kept the ball rolling in the second leg of the doubleheader, jumping out to a 3-0 advantage on Prairie View A&M in the top of the first inning. Kindall DeRamus sparked the inning with a double, before coming around to score on a steal of home.

Skyler Sullivan kept the Lady Panthers off the board for the entirety of the game despite seven hits, her second shutout of the season. Mackenzie Byrd gave the lead a little more cushion in the fourth inning by ripping an RBI single up the middle.
