MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Although the fall football season has been postponed, several publications are releasing their preseason All-Conference teams and All-American honors including the annual
Phil Steele Magazine Friday afternoon.
The teams were presented by Phil Steele and the draftscout.com.
The publication released their three teams for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) that consisted of nine student-athletes from Alabama State making up 10 different positions. The publication also included two players on their first team from the Hornets.
Senior
Christian Clark was named first team defense after a junior campaign in which he finished fifth on the team in tackles with 50, including 26 solo stops. He also recorded 3.5 tackles for loss and recovered one fumble. He was joined on the first team by
Ezra Gray as a kick returner and an all-purpose performer after a 2019 campaign that saw him return 14 kicks for 338 yards (24.14 per return). He also ran the ball 157 times for 654 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Gray was also one of three selections for the four All-American teams released Friday evening, earning Third Team honors as a kick returner.
Three Hornets were chosen second team including linebacker
Nicholas Terry who finished the year 34 tackles including 24 solo stops. He also recorded seven tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks on the season. He was joined on the second team by defensive back
Naytron Culpepper who finished the season with 13 passes defended and three interceptions. He also finished the year with 35 tackles, with 4.5 tackles for loss. The two were joined on the second team by long snapper
Luke Barnes who handled all of the snapping duties on punts, field goals and extra points.
Meanwhile, four student-athletes were named third team including
Michael Jefferson who finished the year with 49 receptions for 767 yards and 12 touchdowns. The junior recorded a pair of games with three touchdown receptions in each. He was joined on the team by a trio of first-time selections including defensive lineman
Andrew Ogletree. The redshirt sophomore finished with 26 stops, including 7.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
The two were joined by linebacker
Colton Adams who finished with 43 tackles, including 8.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks; and
Hunter Hanson who finished the year connecting on eight of 14 field goals including a season long of 43 yards.
