HOUSTON, Texas | Jayla Crawford paced four players in double figures as Alabama State pulled away in the second half for a 74-62 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory over Texas Southern at the H&PE Arena Saturday night.

After a sluggish first quarter for both teams, Alabama State (6-1, 6-1 SWAC) took a two-point lead into halftime and extended that lead to as many as 21 midway through the fourth quarter thanks in large part to Crawford. The junior connected on her first eight shots from the floor and finished with 22 points on 8-for-10 shooting from the floor – including three three-point baskets. She also finished with five rebounds and a pair of assists.

Shmya Ward added 12 points and eight rebounds, while Tyesha Rudolph added 12 and six rebounds off the bench and Ayana Emmanuel 10 in the victory. Courtney Lee added six assists for the Lady Hornets.

Alabama State finished the night shooting 47.5 (28-for-59) percent from the floor and 38.5 (5-for-13) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the night shooting 65.0 (13-for-20) percent from the free throw line, while winning the rebounding battle 45-31.

Alabama State returns to action Monday night at Prairie View A&M, with tip set for 5:30 pm. The game will be carried by the Hornet Sports Network.
