Alabama State sets sights on three-game conference slate in Grambling

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State (9-14, 7-2 SWAC) will travel to Grambling, Louisiana to take on three conference opponents in a two-day span at the Hobdy Assembly Center, for the SWAC Cluster over the weekend.

The Lady Hornets will take on both Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Texas Southern on Saturday, October 30 at 11 am and 5 pm respectively, before playing host Grambling on Sunday, October 31 at 1 pm.

GAME NOTES
  • The Hornets are looking to extend their five-game winning streak away from home, after wins over SWAC opponents Prairie View and Alcorn State on neutral sites, along with Bethune-Cookman, Florida A&M and Alabama A&M all on the road.
  • Alabama State has a 13-1 record against UAPB under head coach Penny Lucas-White, won five out of the last six meetings dating back to 2018, with the last meeting ending in a 3-0 sweep over the Bulldogs earlier this year in Montgomery.
  • The Hornets hold a 17-3 record against Texas Southern along with a 12-1 record against Grambling over the span, with the last matches both being sweeps for the Hornets in the 2019 SWAC Roundup.
  • Four Alabama State players have logged 100 kills so far this season in Jada Rhodes (Tallahassee, Fla.) leading the way at 221, Kalysia Bates (Phenix City, Ala.) at 179, Alexis Ratliff (Atlanta, Ga.) with 134 and Mahogany Vinson (Richton Park, Ill.) with 120.
  • Two Hornet setters have over 350 assists in Madison Beasley (Gilbert, Ariz.) with 371 and McKenzie Boland (Stockbridge, Ga.) with 353.
  • Four Hornets have 100-plus digs in Emersen Belles (Gilbert, Ariz.) with 179, Rhodes with 174, Beasley with 113 and Logan Horne (Montgomery, Ala.) with 106, while two have over 50 blocks in Bates (69) and Vinson (59).
