NASHVILLE, Tenn. | Alabama State continues their road swing to open the 2021-22 campaign, playing their second game in as many nights, taking on Vanderbilt at Memorial Gymnasium.
The game tips at 7 pm and can be seen on SEC Network+.
Alabama State (0-1) enters after a five-point loss on the road at Western Kentucky on Monday night, in a game in which they led for most of the game.
Trace Young (Owensboro, Ky.) led the Hornets with a career-high 23 points and nine rebounds, while
Juan Reyna (San Antonio, Texas) added 16 and
Isaiah Range (Cedar Hill, Texas) chipped in 14.
The game will be the first for Vanderbilt this season on Student Appreciation Night.

GAME NOTES
- Tonight's matchup will be one featuring two of the 25 coaches in NCAA basketball who have NBA experience in Mo Williams (Alabama State) and Jerry Stackhouse (Vanderbilt).
- The two teams were scheduled to play for the first time last season before COVID-19 hit and Alabama State opted out of non-conference play.
- The Hornets were led by a trio of players in their first year in a Hornet uniform in the opener – Young, Reyna, and Range – who scored 53 of the Hornets' 74 points on the night.
- Alabama State returns 48.0 percent of its scoring from season ago led by Second Team Preseason All-SWAC Kenny Strawbridge (Rockford, Ill.) at 10.5 points per game. The also return 47.9 percent of their rebounding from 2020-21.
- Tonight's game will mark the 37th contest against a team from the SEC, and the second in the state of Tennessee. The Hornets have faced the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Missouri, and Tennessee in their history.
- Williams, the head coach of the Hornets, is no stranger to Nashville having played against the Commodores while at Alabama.
- Alabama State shot 48.3 (28-for-58) percent from the floor and 40.9 (9-of-22) percent from beyond the arc on the road in the season opener.
