Ayana Emmanuel (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) led three scorers in double figures for Alabama State as they defeated South Alabama, 69-59 in non-conference action inside of the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Sunday afternoon.
Alabama State (1-4) shot a season-high 47.1 (24-of-51) percent from the field and 35.7 (5-of-14) percent from three against the Jaguars, as they trailed just once in the first quarter before controlling the remainder of the game.
Emmanuel paced the Hornets with a game-high 16 points along with four rebounds and three assists in 24 minutes of play. Fellow senior
Jayla Crawford (Birmingham, Ala.) added 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists in nearly 28 minutes, while graduate transfer
Jada Nneji (Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada) scored in double figures for the first time in an Alabama State uniform, finishing with 14 points and four blocks on the afternoon.
Alabama State outscored South Alabama in many of the major categories, including points in the paint, second chance, fast break, and bench points – where the Hornets added 30, also their highest on the year.
Dee Haymer and Destiny Samuel led the Jaguars with nine points apiece, as the Hornets prevented any double figure scorers from the opposition.

Alabama State returns to action next Sunday with a road matchup against in-state opponent Jacksonville State. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 pm inside of Pete Mathews Coliseum.
