JACKSON, Miss. |Â Alabama State (14-15, 11-3 SWAC) dropped a 3-0 match to Jackson State inside of the Lee Williams Athletics and Assembly Center in their final road game of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After trading the first two scores, Alabama State gave up a 7-3 run and called a timeout trailing 8-4 in the opening set.
- The Hornets climbed back into the game after the break, reducing the lead and eventually tied the game at 14-14.
- The two teams battled over the next few rallies until another stoppage in play with the Hornets trailing by two at 19-17.
- Alabama State tied the game again at 19-19, and twice more before the end of the match, falling 25-22.
- The Tigers started the second set with three straight scores, however the Hornets got on the board on two errors from Jackson State before climbing within a point.
- Alabama State called their first timeout trailing 9-6 and proceeded to flip momentum and tie the game at 11-11 for the first of nine times in the set.
- After a close battle over the next few scores, Mahogany Vinson (Richton Park, Ill.) earned two kills to give the Hornets a 20-17 lead and forced a Jackson State timeout.
- The Tigers recovered to tie the game for the final time at 22-22 before taking a 2-0 lead in the match with the 25-22 win.
- The third set was more of the same, with the teams playing a close third set and the Hornets trailing 14-13 before calling their first timeout.
- After tying the game a point later, Alabama State fell down once again this time by a score of 21-18 before calling their second timeout of the set, however could not regain momentum and fell 25-20 in the third and final set.
GAME NOTES
- Kalysia Bates (Phenix City, Ala.) led Alabama State with 10 kills and seven digs on the day, while Vinson finished with seven kills and three blocks against the Tigers.
- Junior Madison Beasley (Gilbert, Ariz.) dished out 13 assists to go along with four kills and a dig, while McKenzie Boland (Stockbridge, Ga.) dished out nine assists and earned six digs on the afternoon.
- Alabama State closed out their road contests with games against Mississippi Valley and Jackson State. The Hornets will host Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M to end the regular season.
UP NEXT
Alabama State returns home for their final two games of the regular season with matches against Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman. The Hornets will take on the Wildcats on Friday, November 12 at 6 pm, followed by the Rattlers on Sunday, November 14 at 4 pm.
