AUSTIN, Texas | Alabama State plays its final pre-Christmas contest, and the first of back-to-back contests in the state of Texas, facing No. 16/17 Texas on Wednesday afternoon.

The game will tip at 1 pm at the Frank C. Erwin, Jr., Special Events Center and will be carried on the Longhorn Network.

Alabama State (1-9) has not played since Saturday, December 11 against Pepperdine after their last two games – UCLA and Memphis – were postponed due to COVID protocols within their opponents' programs. Alabama State and Texas have never met; however, the Hornets are no stranger to the Big 12 having played ten games against conference members.

GAME NOTES

• The game with the Longhorns will be the first of back-to-back games in the state of Texas for Alabama State, as it returns on December 28 to face No. 25/24 Texas Tech in Lubbock.
• Alabama State and Texas have never met; however, this is the second of three games against an opponent from the Big 12. The Hornets dropped a 68-60 game to Iowa State in November.
• Junior forward Gerald Liddell (Cibolo, Texas) returns to the floor he started his collegiate career, having played his first two seasons for the Longhorns.
• The Hornets have started seven different lineups this season through the first ten regular season games and two exhibition games.
• Freshman Juan Reyna (San Antonio, Texas) is still perfect from the free throw line, hitting his first 17 attempts of his collegiate career.
• The Hornets have a strong tie to the state of Texas on their roster this season including Liddell and Reyna. Other players include Ashton McClelland (Houston), Isaiah Range (Cedar Hill) and E.J. Clark (Dallas).
• The game against Texas will be the first against a ranked opponent this season for Alabama State this season. They face Iowa when they were receiving votes in the poll and faced Iowa State before they were ranked in the top 25.
