CHAPEL HILL, N.C. | Alabama State dropped a non-conference women's basketball matchup against North Carolina 83-47 inside the Carmichael Arena on Tuesday afternoon.
Tuesday's matchup is the final game for Alabama State (2-7) before Christmas, as they will close out the non-conference portion of their schedule with a matchup with Vanderbilt next week.
North Carolina exploded with a huge first quarter to break the game open and led at the half 50-20. The Hornets battled after the break, as they were outscored by only six points (33-27) in the second half.
Tyesha Rudolph (Evergreen, Ala.) led the Hornets with a career-high 22-point outing, shooting 6-of-10 from the field along with grabbing five rebounds.
Jayla Crawford (Birmingham, Ala.) finished with nine points, two rebounds and two assists on the afternoon, while
Tamia Stallings (Brookhaven, Miss.) and
Hannah White (Columbus, Miss.) added six points each in the loss.
The Hornets finished the game shooting 27 (18-of-67) percent from the floor, 33 (6-of-18) percent from three. They also finished 71 (5-of-7) percent from the free throw line. The two teams finished even with 13 second chance points each, while Alabama State scored 25 points off the bech.
Deja Kelly led four Tar Heel double figure scorers with 16 points, going 6-of-6 from the charity stripe, followed by Eva Hodgson added 14 points. Kennedy Todd-Williams added 11 points, while Anya Poole added ten on the day.
UP NEXT
Alabama State will play their final non-conference game of the season as they take on Vanderbilt in Nashville on December 28. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
