BATON ROUGE, La. | Alabama State dropped just two points in three matches this weekend at the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Pod One in Baton Rouge (La.), sweeping their three matches in defense of their crown.

Alabama State (5-3, 3-0 SWAC) started the weekend with a 4-2 win over Alabama A&M, before sweeping both Prairie View A&M (4-0) and Mississippi Valley State (6-0). In their match against Alabama A&M, the Hornets dropped the doubles' point before coming back to win four of the five singles matches that were completed.

The Hornets' Chris Andre picked up a three-set win at number one while Ruan Du Preez, Assil Boussayri, and Juan Rodriguez all picked up straight set wins.

Meanwhile, the Hornets were able to capture the doubles' point against Prairie View A&M in their second match of the weekend before winning three singles matches to cruise to the win. Alabama State picked up wins by Boussayri, Rodriguez, and Calvis in straight sets to complete the sweep.

In their final match of the weekend, Alabama State defeated Mississippi Valley State 6-0 and did not drop a single point in any of the nine matches to finish the weekend undefeated.

Alabama State returns to action at home on March 6 against Belmont. No fans will be allowed inside the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center for the match due to socially distant seating. Alabama State University is a mask mandatory campus, including all of its athletic venues.
